After 24 days with no news, Niantic have just announced a Pokémon GO update (0.53.1 for Android and 1.23.1 for iOS).
- Updated Apple Watch to display Eggs obtained from PokéStops
- Changed distance tracking to better account for GPS drift
- Minor text fixes.
The Apple Watch's screen will now be able to display eggs that are obtained from PokéStops.
Fixing the GPS drift sounds like it stops you accumulating distance travelled when you're not moving - bad luck for those used to hatching eggs while sitting at your desk. Realistically, anyone playing the game properly shouldn't miss those rare 0.1km distances!
New Pokémon genders
There are now in-game differences in the male and female Pikachu and Raichu models:
- The female Pikachu's tail ends in a heart shape
- The female Raichu's tail is blunt at the end
Evolution items
The following items have appeared in the code, and look to be items that are used in order to evolve the following Gen 2 Pokémon:
- Sun Stone: Gloom -> Bellossom & Sunkern -> Sunflora
- Kings Rock: Poliwhirl -> Politoed & Slowpoke -> Slowking
- Metal Coat: Onix -> Steelix & Scyther -> Scizor
- Dragon Scale: Seadra -> Kingdra
- Upgrade: Porygon -> Porygon2
Hidden updates
Additionally, there are some undocumented changes in the update discovered by TheSilphRoad which makes the patch far more exciting, including:
38 new moves have been added to the game
These moves (more than likely for Gen 2 Pokémon) are now in the game, and are ready to be activated server-side.
Pokémon forms found (for Unown)
There are specific mentions to Unown A
, Unown B
, etc. in the code which points towards there being all the different forms for the upcoming Gen 2 Pokémon Unown.
